What is Wild Roots Forest School?

Wild Roots Forest School in south east London provides holiday clubs for local children. Everything takes place outdoors, giving children the chance to create their own playground from logs and trees. They will be introduced to different natural crafts which will give them the opportunity to use tools such as saws, hammers and knives, but most of all, they will have the chance to play freely and follow their own interests.

Wild Roots Forest School sessions could involve making a caterpillar out of conkers, or digging holes in mud; looking under logs for minibeasts or climbing
a tree; cooking popcorn over a fire or whittling a wand from a stick.

As well as bringing fun and joy to children's lives, these activities help children to trust in their own abilities, and develop their self-esteem and self-confidence. All while helping them value the natural environment and our need to protect it.

Nature is everywhere, urban living is no barrier.

What people say

I love the fact that they do so much arts and crafts, seeing the potential in natural materials, and feeling proud and empowered by what they create.

Y absolutely loves what you've brought into her world. When we were on holiday she wanted to teach her friend forest skills—and she did!

Thanks for the Forest Fun session. The girls really enjoyed it and both are now keen whittlers.
